Famous Hominid Discoveries

Lucy: Australopithecus afarensis, 3.2 million years old
Discovered by Donald Johanson in eastern Africa.

Taung Child: Australopithecus africanus, 2.5 million years old
Discovered in South Africa. First described by Raymond Dart.

Twiggy (OH 24): Homo habilis, 1.8 million years old
Discovered by Peter Nzube at Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania.

Zinj: Australopithecus boisei (or Australopithecus paranthropus), 1.75 million years old
Discovered by Mary Leakey in eastern Africa.

Java Man: Homo erectus, 1.81 million years old

Turkana Boy: Homo ergaster (Homo erectus), 1.6 million years old
Discovered by Richard Leakey in Kenya.

Peking Man: Homo erectus, 750,000 years old
Discovered near Beijing, China.

Notice that there is overlap in the dates. This is because there was more
than just one hominid species that existed at any given time in the past.
Names are derived from location of discovery, person who made the
discovery, or in the case of Lucy, from a Beatles song.

Resources, organizations and websites for freethinkers

Here are some resources, organizations and websites for freethinkers, atheists
humanists and people of science, reason and logic. If you enjoy truth and reality,
and dislike people that believe in fairy tales and myths (and indoctrinate their kids),
there might be something here for you. If you think for yourself and are not
brain-washed by society, your parents and tradition, check out one of these sites.
If evidence (and not blind faith) is your choice, you can be free from religious
dogma and the hypocrites that claim the moral high ground.   Atheism resource site  American Atheists   Freedom from Religion Foundation
